Flagship Rwanda

Clean Water For Every School is a national initiative underway in Rwanda, designed to ensure that children can learn, grow, and thrive without being harmed by the water they drink.

While many schools have access to water, safety is not guaranteed. Contaminated water contributes to preventable illness, repeated absenteeism, reduced learning outcomes, and long-term health impacts, with girls often disproportionately affected.

This program delivers long-term water infrastructure, not short-term aid. Through the deployment of high-capacity water purification systems, our initiative provides consistent safe drinking water capable of removing biological, chemical, and particulate contaminants including: bacteria, viruses, parasites, heavy metals, microplastics, and persistent “forever chemicals” such as PFAS.

The program is led in-country by our partner, Empower The Future (ETF), a Rwanda-based organisation responsible for implementation, training, and long-term system stewardship, working in coordination with Rwanda’s Ministry of Education to align with national priorities. Purification systems are supplied by International Pure Water (IPW), providing technical oversight and product stewardship, while The Drink Pure Foundation supports delivery, coordination, and proof of impact.

The initial 15-school pilot establishes performance and delivery credibility. The program is now designed to be implemented on a national scale, with clearly defined phases to reach hundreds, and ultimately thousands, of schools across Rwanda.

Clean Water For Every School is a scalable, evidence-driven model demonstrating how safe drinking water access can become a permanent reality for all of Rwanda and beyond!
